Estelle, who joined Étendues Sauvages in 2023, is passionate about horses and the American plains. She tells us about her conquest of the West…

Tales and legends carried us off to the conquest of the West; in our dreams, hair in the wind, rocked by the fearless gallop of a horse we called Storm. Playing cowboys and Indians in the schoolyard. Discovering the rodeo through the formidable swaying gait of a pony with the sweet name of Little Thunder; the moment to cling to its mane and become your favourite character.

Growing up, films fuelled the dream of this vast land to ride across. The thrill of being in tune with your horse as you cross these Wild Expanses in search of yourself.

A cowboy hat to shield from the sun and herd the cattle, gloves to protect the hands from the chafing of reins and rope, long leather chaps, preferably fringed. Proudly embody the cowboy image and live this moment of freedom, recalling the famous film The Horse Whisperer alongside Robert Redford.

Crossing these wild territories where the wind whispers forgotten tales.

The sound of hooves from herds of mustangs pounding the ground of Montana’s arid plains defines freedom. Intoxicated by this knightly melody, their whinnying as the backing notes. With an elegant, delicate gait, they symbolise daring and the unreachable. They embody the untamed spirit of the plains. Running ever faster, ever farther, in constant pursuit of the horizon.

Unable to fully satisfy one’s curiosity, keeping the soul of a child at heart in nature. Marvelling, letting oneself be surprised, moved, enriched… So many emotions can arise from the diversity of these elements.

The United States is synonymous with perspectives where the horizon promises an eternal journey of self-discovery. Escape is within reach, to tread the infinitely vast where a variety of landscapes unfolds before your eyes. A living tableau where time seems to stand still. These lands inspire letting go and a return to the essential.
