The twin sister of the Brandberg, the Waterberg massif, north of Windhoek, forms a national nature park renowned for the richness of its flora, nourished by the many springs and watercourses that run through the site. The park covers 40,550 hectares and offers a contrasting landscape, combining open plains with reddish cliffs rising 150 metres high, shaped by time.
Wildlife here is abundant and varied: oryx, sable antelope, giraffe, and around 200 bird species. Animals are, however, more discreet here than in other Namibian parks, making for a more intimate and wild observation experience.
The Waterberg plateau also lends itself to numerous hikes, with marked trails allowing visitors to explore the richness of the site on foot, taking in spectacular views over the cliffs, rock formations and lush vegetation. Nature and photography enthusiasts will find an exceptional setting here, both peaceful and unspoiled, where the raw beauty of the desert meets ecological diversity.
