Sri Lanka

Resplendent island

Tailor-made trip to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, a resplendent island set like a pearl in the Laccadive Sea, southeast of India.

It's a country where nature is ever-present, notably with Wilpattu and Yala National Parks.
Add to this the tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya, rice paddies and magnificent white sand beaches.

A trip to Sri Lanka means pairing this natural wealth with a rich cultural heritage. Most of the architectural sites are devoted to the worship of Buddha. With the 48 reclining Buddhas of Dambulla, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, and the imposing Gal Vihara at Polonnaruwa, you'll have plenty to admire!
In a very different register, Galle Fort and the Sigiriya Frescoes round out these cultural stops.

Sri Lanka is the ideal Asian destination for a trip as a couple or as a family with children.
As you'll have gathered, Sri Lanka is a destination to discover without delay.

A pet peeve

Not an option for us!
Whale and dolphin watching trips departing from Mirissa amount to tourism that disregards the welfare of cetaceans. In Mirissa, 34 boats head out to sea for this so-called “observation” activity.
No rules, no respect for the animals. It’s a race to get closest.
Frightened, the cetaceans dive back down and move away, hoping to find some peace. But the boats resume the chase. It’s endless. It’s dismaying.

As you’ll have gathered, we do not offer this activity in Mirissa.
Other regions of Sri Lanka, such as Kalpitiya or Trincomalee, offer seasonal whale watching organised in a different way. These are the regions we favour.

Your questions / Our answers

Do you need to walk a lot in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is a small paradise for hikers, with trails ranging widely in difficulty. Visiting some sites requires good physical condition. Depending on your preferences, it’s possible to favour the easier visits and plan some by bike or tuk-tuk.

How to get around Sri Lanka?

Distances can quickly add up. We recommend hiring a car with a driver-guide.
Some distances can also be covered by private plane or helicopter. The train remains a real adventure — it just needs to be organised in advance. It guarantees memorable encounters and, above all, journeys through breathtaking landscapes.

Is there nightlife in Sri Lanka?

Outside the main cities, there is little nightlife, aside from small local bars that aren’t always advisable to venture into. Some coastal stops have small night markets, but these are very touristy. Sri Lankans tend to go to bed early, as they rise early for cultural and religious reasons.

Is Sri Lanka a destination suited to children?

Sri Lanka is an ideal destination with children. Both cultural and playful, at the heart of nature, with the chance to see animals in the wild and sometimes even approach them. Not to mention races with the monkeys! A coastal stay of several days at the end of the trip is generally much appreciated by the whole family for some time to relax.
