Brazil

A string of superlatives

Tailor-made trip to Brazil

Brazil is a world apart, synonymous with scale: the Amazon rainforest, the Pantanal and the Iguaçu Falls all compete in superlatives for size, climate conditions and the number of animal and plant species represented.

Brazil is in itself a continent. So much culture, adventure and nature. The atmosphere is one of sheer scale!
In our view, the best way to experience a trip to Brazil is not to multiply regions. Stacking up flights or long road transfers is tiring and time-consuming. It is far better to focus on one or two regions and vary the experiences within them. Take the time to explore properly.

Through these pages we offer a few examples of trips designed specifically for you, tailor-made. Some entirely focused on nature, others combining history, culture and nature, and others more festive or beach-oriented.
Sailing the waters of the Amazon aboard exceptional boats, searching for the elusive jaguar in the Pantanal, discovering the baroque jewels of Minas Gerais, or wandering the streets of Salvador de Bahia — these are just some of the trip ideas Brazil has to offer.
And we have no shortage of ideas!

Our pet peeve

Between 2017 and 2018, 7,900 km² of Amazon rainforest in Brazil were cleared, and the current president’s policies tend to accelerate the process.
Brazil holds 60% of the Amazon rainforest, with exceptionally rich biodiversity. But the Amazon has lost 20% of its area over the past 50 years due to deforestation, a trend Brasília must fight against.
Agriculture and the environment have been merged into a single ministry. Between the interests of the powerful agribusiness lobby, backed by the president, and environmental protection, there is little doubt which way the balance tips.
There is even talk of opening indigenous lands to mining or other profitable economic activities, regardless of the consequences.
The planet’s green lung is openly under threat.

Your questions / Our answers

Would you recommend a trip to Brazil with children?

Yes, of course. Brazil is ideal for combining discovery and beach time. Define what you’re after (cities, historical heritage, nature…). Along the Atlantic coast, the beach is never far away in Brazil. Here, it’s an institution, a way of life. Add to that the warmth of Brazilians, the music, the cuisine, and all the elements are in place for a family trip you’ll remember.

Looking for nature, what do you recommend?

It all depends on when you plan to travel, though some sites can be explored year-round. For a trip between April and October, the Pantanal, the Amazon and the Lençóis Maranhenses are the clear choices.
The Amazon, with biodiversity unmatched anywhere else on earth, is one of Brazil’s most storied regions. The Pantanal, for its part, is a vast wetland. It too can be visited year-round, but the dry season between May and September/October is best for wildlife viewing, particularly jaguars.
The Lençóis Maranhenses offer a landscape like no other, breathtaking in scale: white sand dunes interspersed with colored lagoons.
For the rest of the year, there is the Costa Verde, including the Saco de Managua, a true pocket of untouched nature and a spectacular tropical fjord. All of these regions can be combined with the spectacular Iguazu Falls, one of the most captivating displays of wildlife and nature on earth.

Looking for a cultural side of Brazil, what do you recommend?

Without question, Minas Gerais. Most colonial towns in this region emerged from the gold rush of the early 18th century, in 1702. The region is marked by the baroque architecture of towns listed as Unesco World Heritage Sites. Since the early 20th century, the colonial architecture and quiet pace of these villages have made it a favourite destination for Brazilian intellectuals and artists.
