Seeing bears

Grizzly or polar bear?

Seeing bears

Whichever species, the bear is one of the most powerful land animals. Impressive. Magnificent.

As always, we favour the locations and viewing conditions best suited to making this a memorable experience, away from so-called “mass” tourism.
For polar bears, that means lodges in the Churchill region of Canada, far from any settlement. But also expedition camps near Labrador, or aboard a human-scale vessel around the Svalbard archipelago.
For brown bears, Alaska and British Columbia remain essential regions for observing grizzlies. Finland offers good opportunities without travelling too far. While the ultimate destination is Kamchatka, home to the world's largest concentration of brown bears.

And let's not forget the sun bear and the Asiatic black bear in Asia, the spectacled bear in Peru, the American black bear in North America, and the very rare Kermode bear, or “Spirit Bear”, in British Columbia.

Here are a few trip suggestions for observing bears. Don't hesitate to contact our specialists for more information and to design your tailor-made journey. To each their own bear!
