Namibie
Sesriem
It offers 20 simple, elegantly decorated thatched-roof chalets.
The common areas overlooking the rooms comprise a lounge and a very pleasant terrace where meals are served.
A television room and internet access are also available, along with a gift shop.
A swimming pool is on hand to cool you off on hot days.
The 20 chalets at Desert Homestead Lodge have a fan and a small north-facing terrace.
Electricity in the rooms is supplied by solar panels and wind turbines, so there are no electrical outlets in the rooms.
A large chalet is offered as family accommodation, comprising 2 bedrooms and sleeping up to 6 people.
Desert Homestead has a fine stable of horses and offers morning and afternoon rides across the reserve. The horses are well suited to the environment, and you may well find yourself riding alongside a herd of gemsbok or springbok.
Sunset rides are spectacular: you'll spend 2-3 hours in the saddle before returning in time for sunset views over magnificent scenery. Overnight bivouacs are also possible.
A hike (at sunset, if you prefer) to explore this fascinating part of Namibia along trails used by gemsbok and springbok is an excellent way to discover the Naukluft.
The lodge also offers the option of unguided walks, as well as excursions to Sossusvlei or the Naukluft Mountains.
