The Serengeti. Endless plains. The land of lions. Every budding explorer's dream.
Covering 14,000 km², the Serengeti is one of the largest parks in Africa. Sitting at 1,000 metres' altitude, it spans a range of distinct biotopes: savannah with vast plains to the south, hilly woodland to the west, “kopjes” and termite-mound country to the east, and shrub savannah to the north. Crossed by unbroken columns of zebra and wildebeest during the migration, the savannah is also home year-round to a resident population of spotted hyenas and jackals — likely among the first animals to greet you — as well as the Big Five. It is also the only park in Tanzania where cheetahs and leopards can easily be spotted, and it holds the highest concentration of big cats in the world.
