Lying off the southern coast of Mozambique, Benguerra Island is the second-largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Covering around 55 km², it is accessible by boat or helicopter from Vilanculos. A true natural gem, Benguerra captivates with the diversity of its landscapes: white sand beaches lined with palm trees, ochre dunes, dense forests, freshwater lakes and lush mangroves.
Part of the Bazaruto National Marine Park, the island is a refuge for exceptional wildlife. Its coral reefs teem with life: tropical fish, turtles, dolphins, manta rays, and even a few rare dugongs move freely through its waters.
The island’s inhabitants live by the rhythm of traditional fishing and customs passed down from generation to generation, in a peaceful and warm atmosphere.
Benguerra perfectly embodies the spirit of “barefoot luxury”: a simple luxury, respectful of nature and local cultures. Here, there is no artifice, just the essentials. Between a sunset dhow trip, a dive into crystal-clear waters or a moment of rest in the shade of a coconut palm, the island offers a timeless retreat at the heart of the Indian Ocean.
