Plantation Lodge is an enchanting retreat nestled in the fertile hills of Ngorongoro, between Karatu and the entrance to the famous conservation area. Absolute calm reigns here, broken only by birdsong.

This lodge blends colonial charm with natural elegance: white walls, high ceilings, warm wood, black-and-white photographs and local craft pieces. You'll stay within an active coffee plantation, surrounded by lush tropical gardens (bougainvillea, frangipani, jacaranda, mango and coffee trees...) where the scent of jacaranda, bougainvillea and eucalyptus drifts through the cool morning air. The location is ideal: just 20-30 minutes from the entrance to Ngorongoro Crater, and close to Lake Manyara and Tarangire parks — perfect for combining safari with quiet moments.

Service is attentive and personal, the atmosphere intimate, like a haven of peace after a day of adventure.

Layout

The communal areas and restaurant offer a cosy, warm atmosphere. Vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit come directly from the hotel's kitchen garden, and a very good wine cellar will satisfy wine connoisseurs! Meals can be taken outdoors or indoors, depending on the weather and the mood.
Plantation Lodge has around 24 rooms and suites, scattered across small individual cottages and chalets hidden among the gardens. The communal areas include a main lounge, a convivial bar, two elegant dining rooms and a lovely terrace overlooking the surrounding nature.
After a busy day of safari, you'll appreciate the coolness and tranquillity of the small pool, which offers a superb view over the surrounding hills and landscapes.

For your children

Children of all ages are welcome, though the facilities are better suited to older children. Swimming pool, large gardens, gentle walks. Children's menus available, as well as high chairs and cots on request.

Rooms

Each room or suite has its own character: standard, the “Jacaranda” suite, the Garden House for families, or more private units. They are equipped with an en-suite bathroom with shower, king or twin beds, mosquito nets, a tea/coffee corner, and a fireplace or wood-burning stove for cooler evenings. The suites offer more space, often a separate lounge, a private veranda, and sometimes a larger, more luxurious bathroom. The Garden House combines several rooms for families or groups, with a shared lounge and dining area.

SPA

The lodge offers a simple but high-quality wellness service: relaxing massages on request, spa treatments in a green setting, and moments of relaxation in the shade of the trees. Ideal for soothing the body after a safari, listening to birdsong, and fully recharging.

Activities offered

At Plantation Lodge, there is never a dull moment: safaris in Ngorongoro Crater, excursions to Lake Manyara and Tarangire parks. Coffee plantation tours, walks through neighbouring farms, birdwatching in the garden, easy nature hikes. On site, sunset on the terrace, bush breakfasts or private dinners under the stars are standout moments. Some activities are included, others come at an extra cost (e.g. safaris, tailor-made excursions).
