Tarangire
Set between the vast plains and forests of Tarangire National Park and the calm waters of Lake Manyara, Chem Chem Tarangire sits within an oasis of palms, with a magnificent panoramic view of the Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The camp occupies a private concession, designated by the government as a wildlife conservation area.
Chem Chem Safari Lodge offers eight elegant suites reminiscent of traditional African tents.
You’re invited to relax by the lodge pool, at the bar, in the spa, or in the spacious communal areas. A room is equipped with various fitness equipment should you wish to work out.
Whether you prefer exploring the reserve and watching wildlife by 4x4 or wandering through the lush forests, absorbed by their beauty and serenity, you’re guaranteed a front-row seat either way!
A unique setting, at the very heart of nature: listen closely and you’ll hear lions roaring and calling to one another through the night. You may also see elephants bathing in Lake Burunge, not far from camp, and if you’re lucky, spot a cheetah hunting along the lake’s shores. Antelope and leopards, meanwhile, can be seen on safaris within the concession’s inland areas.
Children over 8 are warmly welcomed at Chem Chem Safari Lodge. They can go on walks with guides who share their knowledge of the region’s wild side.
As a family, you can learn to build a traditional fire or even join in a game of football.
In this reserve, 8 spacious and intimate tents, with a vintage safari inspiration but contemporary touches, await you for a stay centred on authenticity. Each suite measures 100 m², blending canvas, lava stone and wood. All are spaced 80 metres apart for optimal privacy. You can enjoy your private patio and its splendid daybed.
A family suite, made up of two separate but adjacent tents, can accommodate children over 10 years old.
The lodge has a panoramic terrace with an extraordinary view over Lake Manyara.
Generous spaces, tents open to the outdoors, decor and architecture in complete harmony with the surrounding nature.
There is no shortage of activities: walking or horseback safaris, picnics on the lake shore or beneath ancient baobabs.
Fabia and Nicolas, the owners and creators of the concept, favour the “Slow Safari” approach — taking the time on foot to discover and appreciate the bush for what it is, rather than forcing an encounter with wildlife, choosing instead to wait for it and savour it.
