Layout
Decorated in tones of ivory, ochre and pale wood, blending contemporary and ethnic design, the 20 villas at Azura are beautifully appointed and furnished: fine decorative objects, comfortable furniture, spacious bathrooms, outdoor shower. Nestled within lush vegetation, the villas line a superb wild beach. Each has a small private pool and sundeck shielded from view.
Guests can enjoy fresh sushi at the Star Bar on the beach or learn more about the environment with the resident marine biologist or community guide. The “Trading Store” sells fine artisanal crafts and jewellery. If needed, a television and Internet connection are discreetly tucked away in the library.
Excellent Mozambican produce features in every meal: seafood, poultry, aromatic herbs, flavourful vegetables and spices — an array of flavours to awaken your palate!
The Azura Spa offers a range of relaxation and wellness experiences inspired by African traditions and ingredients.
Azura recently added a Beach Club, 1km from the lodge's main beach, for a change of scenery.
Spend your days lounging at the beach bar or by the pool facing the ocean, sampling innovative Mozambican cuisine or creating your own cocktails.
The Peri-Peri Beach Club offers a range of activities, including open-air cinema on certain evenings, personalised seafood grills, and a Spa pavilion for African-themed massages.
Many activities are centred around the ocean.
The lodge is closely involved in the island's development, working alongside the people of Benguerra (over 200 employees, 76% of whom are local islanders trained by Azura, and 94% Mozambican nationals). Now more than ever, Azura supports its local community and helps implement the essential health measures needed for all.
For your children
Children of all ages are welcome. A babysitting service is available on request.
Suitable activities are offered: a boat trip in search of starfish, football matches against a local team, cooking with the chef, kite flying, introductory snorkelling, and more.
Rooms
Set amid indigenous gardens, each villa is just steps from the beach yet designed for seclusion. All have private pools, air conditioning, fans and a mini-bar.
The infinity beach villas hold the best beachfront positions and are generously sized, with a king-size bed, a bathroom with double outdoor shower, a 5-metre private pool, a spacious terrace and a beachfront sala.
The luxury beach villas are slightly smaller than the villas but still offer excellent facilities.
Villa Amizade has two en-suite bedrooms, one twin and one king, along with a sitting area with flat-screen TV, DVD, a music docking station and a selection of games, a vast terrace and a beachfront garden.
The Presidential Villa is ultra-secluded and designed to be the beach house of your dreams.
SPA
Azura's spa treatments are based on local ingredients and traditions, drawing inspiration from the very heart of Africa. Nothing is rushed at the Azura spa. Relax, rest and pamper yourself.
Activities offered
Many activities are centred around the ocean. Sail aboard Azura's traditional dhow on a sea safari or along the coastline, go snorkelling, watch dolphins that regularly visit the beach, observe humpback whales during their migration past the lodge (from July to September), island-hop by speedboat, or visit Santa Carolina, once known as “Paradise Island”.
The following activities are offered by the lodge: snorkelling, Land Rover island tour, a 15-minute massage on the day of arrival.
Numerous land-based activities are also available. Take an island tour and experience the local culture, or climb the dunes, some scattered with remnants of ancient Arab pottery. Visit the island's lakes, go horse riding, climb the dunes at Bazaruto, spot a crocodile or two, and discover the local flora and fauna.
Other guided or additional activities are also available at extra cost: scuba diving (PADI), fishing, day excursions (Pansy Island recommended), kayaking, sailing, picnics on a deserted sandbank, horse riding, a day of sightseeing in Vilanculos.
