Delta Okavango
The camp comprises eight elegant safari tents, built on wooden platforms.
The dining room, bar and lounge are connected by walkways above the waterways, and the raised platforms offer superb views over the floodplains. The camp also has a small pool for relaxing during the hottest hours of the day.
What makes Chitabe unique in the Okavango Delta is the variety of natural habitats it holds, ranging from classic Okavango landscapes characterized by ilala palms scattered across the floodplains to broad expanses of savannah dotted with acacias. A permanently flooded arm of the marsh extends into the concession, and during flood season, more than 50% of what was shortly before a dry, arid area transforms into a lush oasis. All of this gives rise to a remarkable diversity of species, allowing Chitabe to offer its guests a spectacular showcase of wildlife.
Chitabe camp consists of eight canvas tented rooms with separate bathrooms, linked by raised wooden walkways. Each tent has its own bathroom with an additional outdoor shower, offering the chance to shower under the stars.
Large sliding glass doors make the most of the views, as does the wicker furniture on your private viewing deck, from where you can watch wildlife passing by.
4x4 safaris take place in the morning and late afternoon. The latter usually ends after nightfall, giving a chance to observe nocturnal animals such as the genet, African civet, serval, porcupine and possibly the aardwolf. Other species seen in the area include elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetahs and African wild dogs. There are also two protected hides that allow you to sleep under the stars as well as observe wildlife during the day.
