Meru National Park, located north of Nairobi, is a preserved haven far off the beaten track. Here, amid palm trees, rivers and mountains, lies an authentic and untamed landscape. World-famous as the setting for the book and film Born Free, which tells the story of Elsa the lioness, Meru retains its original charm.
Today, the park holds one of Kenya's largest concentrations of buffalo, along with around sixty rhinos — 40 white and 20 black — and more than 300 bird species. You'll also encounter the iconic big cats, elephants, hippos, and a rich diversity of antelope and other herbivorous mammals.
