We recommend setting off before dawn by vehicle toward Sesriem.
Continue on to Sossusvlei via Dune 45, the most accessible of the great red dunes lining the road between Sesriem and Sossusvlei. Herds of oryx, springbok and ostrich can sometimes be seen along the way. The final 5 kilometres to Sossusvlei can only be covered by 4x4 shuttle or on foot (the transfer is paid for on site).
Climbing one of the Sossusvlei dunes gives a panoramic view of this spectacular site, where dunes stretch as far as the eye can see.
It is also possible to visit Sesriem Canyon, 30 metres deep, located about 4.5 km from the restcamp. The Tsauchab River, which rises in the Naukluft massif, carved this deep gorge through rock conglomerates and sand deposits dating back 15 million years.
