Observe the surreal blue colour of the Rio Celeste as you hike through Tenorio Volcano National Park. The Rio Celeste waterfalls are extraordinary to witness.
This park is located in the volcanic mountain range of Guanacaste (its highest point reaching 1,900m) and shelters very humid forests. You will set off on foot towards the Celeste River, which winds its way through the forest. Legend has it that the river owes its name to God who, at the time of creation, having just painted the sky, dipped his brush into its waters. Here you can observe a rare natural phenomenon, caused by minerals carried by the river that tint both the water and the rocks a striking sky blue. These minerals originate from the deep vents of the Tenorio Volcano, currently dormant. You will find yourself deep in the jungle, close to natural springs, likely the most beautiful in the country. You will then follow the river to discover a stunning waterfall surrounded by dense vegetation: one of the most picturesque sites in Costa Rica. Along the way you will spot tropical plant and animal species (palms, orchids, monkeys, pumas, birds…).
