À vivre

At the far end of Borgarfjörður valley lies Iceland's largest lava tunnel, Víðgelmir cave, 1.5 kilometres long. The cave's largest chamber measures 16m in both height and width.
Set off on an underground adventure deep within the earth, where lava from Icelandic volcanic activity has left its mark.
The striking beauty of Víðgelmir lava cave lies in its remarkable colours and rock formations. Lit by lighting carefully placed at selected points, this impressive cave can now be appreciated in full.
It has long been a place of interest: traces of habitation dating back to the Viking age have been found here. A visit here is a lesson in both geological and human history.
