Kings Canyon is a canyon located in Watarrka National Park, in the Northern Territory.
Watarrka National Park covers 71,000 hectares in the Red Centre of the Northern Territory.
It takes in the western section of the George Gill Range, with its rugged, jagged rock formations, waterholes and gorges that form a true refuge for the region’s flora and fauna.
The Luritja Aboriginal people were the first inhabitants of this region, naming it Watarrka after the many “bush umbrella” trees found here.
Part of the site is sacred, and out of respect for the Luritja people, it is strongly advised not to stray far from the marked path when visiting the canyon.
