À vivre

Located in the northeast of the country, Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, is a true oasis in the midst of the desert. The city has grown on a fertile plain, backed by rugged mountains and bordered by the waters of the Gulf of Oman.
Its unique charm stems as much from this enchanting natural setting as from its rich multicultural heritage, shaped by Bedouin, Persian, Portuguese and English influences.
The city's most iconic landmark is undoubtedly the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which combines modernity with grandeur. It houses the largest single-piece woven carpet in the world as well as the largest chandelier ever built.
The Sultan of Oman receives his distinguished guests at Qasr al-Alam, the blue-and-gold royal palace, a powerful symbol of the country's renaissance.
Other not-to-be-missed sites include the National Museum of Oman, tracing the country's history back to prehistoric times, the Bait Al Zubair Museum, with its rich private collection of traditional objects, jewellery and weapons, as well as the Muscat Gate Museum and the Royal Opera House, remarkable examples of Omani architecture.
The old town, the Portuguese forts, and the Muttrah Corniche with its souk, fish market and harbour all bear witness to a history going back more than 6,000 years.
