À vivre

Al Hamra, meaning “red city”, takes its name from its striking mud-brick houses, some of which are several centuries old. A number of them rise three or four storeys high, bearing witness to an ancestral architectural know-how.
At the heart of the town, one of these traditional houses has been restored and turned into a small living museum. Inside, the different rooms of daily life have been faithfully recreated with their furniture, utensils, tools and numerous antique objects, some of them millennia old.
Omani women bring the gestures of everyday life back to life here: they grind flour, prepare traditional plant-based remedies, and cook the region's well-known local crepes. An authentic immersion into domestic life of the past, offering a genuine glimpse into the region's cultural heritage.
