Set in the heart of the Sierra Madre in northern Mexico, las Barrancas del Cobre (the Copper Canyon) form a vast network of canyons among the most imposing in the world. There are many ways to explore this immense canyon, but the most famous — and without doubt the most intense — is to cross it aboard the train from Chihuahua to Los Mochis, known as El Chepe, one of the last passenger railway lines still operating in Mexico. It winds through the landscape at 2,500 m altitude. The highlight of the trip: a spectacular view over the Copper Canyon, which you can take in from your hotel perched on the cliff edge... before the train continues its journey across a succession of bridges and tunnels deep within the canyon. Once past Divisadero station, the descent suddenly begins... Hold onto your seats! A series of 180° curves follows, dropping you from 2,000 m to 800 m.
