Throughout the winter season, orcas follow the herring shoals as they slowly move south, taking refuge in the shallow fjords. This is one of the largest gatherings of orcas in the world, and also one of the places offering the highest chances of sightings. It is a remarkable sight to watch a family of orcas feeding on a shoal of herring they have driven to the surface. Seabirds take advantage of the opportunity, and a humpback whale is often nearby.
