Blessed with an almost perfect climate, Argentina has become South America’s largest wine producer, and the fifth largest in the world, exporting wine since the 16th century. Between 70% and 80% of Argentine vineyards are concentrated in the region around the city of Mendoza, rising to over 1,000 metres in altitude in northwest Argentina.
The vineyards of northwest Argentina are mainly planted in the Calchaquí Valleys, the region around the small town of Cafayate. They are cultivated at altitudes between 1,700 and 3,100 metres, making them the highest vineyards in the world.
These extreme climates produce highly pure and concentrated wines, representative of terroirs bathed in exceptional sunshine. Wines produced in Mendoza are known for their elegance, fine-grained tannins and good acidity. They are reputed to be the most antioxidant-rich wines in the world.
Visit and taste, in the region’s “bodegas” and “estancias”, vintages with woody, spicy notes, aromas of dark fruit, and a deep colour verging on violet.
