Masai Mara
A subtle blend of romance, adventure, discovery and exploration, Mara Plains celebrates the essence of East Africa through its décor inspired by Swahili and Maasai cultures.
The 7 tents blend seamlessly into the surroundings, and the cuisine is simple, prepared with local produce. Protecting endangered species is a priority. A genuine approach to responsible ecotourism, carried out in partnership with neighbouring Maasai families.
An ideal place to enjoy the stillness of the bush, the vast main tent houses two lounges, a library corner, and a dining room with a large communal table where breakfasts and dinners are served when not taken under the stars.
Mara Plains Camp is reached by light aircraft to Ol Kiombo airstrip, followed by a 30-minute 4x4 transfer.
The seven octagonal tents are beautifully appointed in traditional safari style, with old-world elegance, well spaced from one another and raised into the canopy along the Ntiakatek river.
Each one offers a superb view over the surrounding savannah and has a private terrace and a bathroom with a copper bathtub.
Activities are organised day by day, with no pre-set programme, to make the most of what nature offers at any given moment and to adapt to guests' wishes.
Thanks to its ideal location, not far from the route of the annual Great Migration, lions, leopards and cheetahs can easily be spotted around the camp.
4x4 safaris accompanied by experienced Maasai guides, walking safaris and birdwatching walks are offered, and, at an additional cost, it is possible to take a hot-air balloon flight or visit a Maasai village.
