Cachoeira is a small, quiet town in the Reconcavo region, 120 km from Salvador, at the heart of tobacco plantations. On the banks of the Rio Paraguaçu, facing the town of São Félix, it is known for its historical heritage but above all for its religious festivals. It is home to the famous Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte procession, honoring the Virgin over several days around August 15th. Cachoeira produces tobacco, cashew nuts and oranges. With no modern construction, Cachoeira moves at a peaceful pace, with its traditional activities, time-worn shops and weathered churches — part of its appeal. You will discover Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Monte, an 18th-century church offering a lovely view over the Paraguaçu River and the village of São Félix. Don't miss the Correios e Telégrafos (post office), the city's finest example of Art Deco style.
