A small, authentic village in the north of Villa Clara, which survived through the 18th century thanks to trade with corsairs and pirates, notably the French. Traces of this remain in names such as Hotel Mascotte or Café du Louvre. Known today for its December 24th celebration, Las Parrandas (a national heritage event), presented during a visit to its secret workshops, it is a town full of legends, untouched by tourism, where the “Remediana” identity prevails. The Sugar Industry Museum displays a now-defunct sugar mill along with a magnificent collection of steam locomotives, testifying to Cuba's main commercial activity over several centuries.
