Day 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to the dock where the boat is moored. First discovery of the city of Santarem, situated at the confluence of the Amazon and the Tapajos. On arrival, the cruise director welcomes you aboard the Amazon Dream. Settle into your cabin. In the afternoon, around 3:30 pm, the Amazon Dream casts off and glides slowly toward the meeting of the waters. For kilometres, the blue waters of the Tapajos run alongside the yellow waters of the Amazon without mixing, like an immense piece of lacework. It is one of the favourite playgrounds of pink dolphins (boto) and grey dolphins (tucuxi). Sail toward the mouth of the Curua-una river. Dinner and overnight on board. First contact with the sounds, calls and murmurs of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 2: Breakfast, followed by a motorboat outing to observe birds and flora with your guide. Piranha fishing, then sail toward the village of Pacoval on the Curua-Una river. Visit the community and meet its inhabitants. Return to the boat for lunch on board. Sail along the Amazon river toward Belém, heading to Monte Alegre. Along the banks, spot the stilt houses of the caboclos, the “people of the waters”, descended from the intermarriage of Indigenous peoples with Portuguese conquerors in the 16th and 17th centuries. Visit Monte Alegre with your guide. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 3: After breakfast, visit the Monte Alegre market: flavours, colours, scents — all of the Amazon in one place. Set off by 4x4 for the “Serra da Lua” (moon mountain) and the “Serra Irerè”, shaped by wind and rain, to discover caves sheltering rock paintings 12,000 years old: this region was the cradle of a highly advanced paleo-Indigenous civilisation, long before the Incas and the Mayas. Picnic at a small fazenda on the shores of Lake Monte Alegre. Return to the boat. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 4: Breakfast, then sail toward Lake Monte Alegre. Along the way, a motorboat outing to observe wildlife and flora on the small tributaries linking the Amazon to Lake Monte Alegre. Lunch on board. Arrival at the Santarém river terminal. Brief exploration of the town — herbalists, port bazaars, stalls selling multicoloured hammocks, and the bustling life of its people. Return to the boat, sail toward the Jari. This small waterway linking the Amazon to the Tapajos is ideal for observing Amazonian wildlife. Dolphins, crocodiles, iguanas, birds of every kind are abundant here. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 5: Breakfast at daybreak. Motorboat outing on the Jari for a full-scale expedition. Visit a village on the banks of the Jari and observe the wildlife and flora. Return aboard the Amazon Dream and sail toward Alter do Chao, the “Caribbean at the heart of the Amazon”. Short walk to the top of “Piroca” hill for a magnificent view over Alter do Chao and its surroundings. Visit the village and its Indigenous and caboclo craft shops. Lunch on board, beach time and relaxation.
Transfer to Santarem airport in the afternoon.
