The valley features a geological formation unique to the area, the mogotes — mound-like hills covered in dense vegetation that rise up from the ground. Heading towards the community of El Moncada, nestled in the Santo Tomás valley 18 km from Viñales, lies the Sitio del Infierno (the Site of Hell), which, despite its name, looks more like a paradise for native flora and fauna. The path climbing up to Los Acuáticos — an isolated mountain community once known for using only spring water for healing — is steep. The trail then descends back into the valley. Viewpoints follow one after another along the way. A hike for lovers of unspoiled nature, allowing for a calm, quiet and grand approach to the famous Viñales Valley.
