À vivre

At Tierra Patagonia, you'll have a wide choice of activities to keep you busy!
Half-day and full-day walks are organised.

Half-day walks:
“Backyard”: panoramic views of Lake Sarmiento, discovery of the “trombolitos” geological formations, millions of years old and created by some of the oldest organisms on Earth. With a bit of luck, you may spot the park's largest predator, the puma, along with a privileged view of the Paine massif.
Level: Easy

“Hunter Trails”: discovery of the north with the Paine massif as a backdrop. Visit a rock shelter with cave paintings left by the Aonikenk, native hunter peoples. Wildlife is also part of the walk: guanaco, fox and condor. The walk ends near the Laguna Amarga ranger station.
Level: Medium

“Corniches”: from the Ranchs sector, a walk that climbs gradually towards a hillside, offering impressive views over Torres del Paine, Sierra Contreras and Sierra del Toro. From up there, you'll find your own way back down. Eagles and condors may well put in an appearance!
Level: Medium

“Origins of Life”: starting from the Sarmiento ranger station sector. A walk along this geological route crosses a flat area then descends to Lake Sarmiento. Discover the “trombolitos” rock formations and a new viewpoint over the Paine massif. Around the lagoons, the region's wildlife is remarkable.
Level: Medium

Full-day walks:
“Mirador Ferrier”: Head west through the Sarmiento entrance of the park, crossing to the Grey entrance with magnificent views along the way. Your hike begins up to the first viewpoint, where you can see Grey Beach, the ice floes and the Paine massif from the western side. Continue climbing to reach your final destination: the Ferrier lookout, with its sweeping views over the Pingo and Grey glaciers, the Paine massif, and the region's valleys and lakes.
Level: Difficult

“Pingo Valley”: Cross the national park with views over mountains and lakes until reaching the Grey entrance. The hike follows the Pingo River to an old “puesto”, or gaucho outpost. The route continues to “Chorillo Los Salmones”, a small waterfall in the middle of Pingo Valley.
Level: Difficult

“Condor Lookout”: Cross the park with sweeping views over lakes and mountains until reaching Pehoe camp. Climb a hill with increasingly impressive views as you ascend. After 1.5 hours, you reach the Condor lookout, where you can enjoy views over Lake Pehoe, the Paine massif and the valleys in the park's southwest.
Level: Difficult

“Grey Peninsula”: Cross the park with remarkable views until reaching Checkpoint Grey. The hike begins by crossing the Pingo River on a suspension bridge. You then cross a beautiful lenga forest before descending a short slope to the black pebbles of Grey Beach. Walk along the beach to the viewpoint where Grey Glacier can be seen in the distance.
Level: Difficult

“Horns Lookout”: travel into the heart of the national park, stopping at various viewpoints including Laguna Los Cisnes, Lago Sarmiento and Lago Nordenskold until reaching the Pudeto sector. A hike with sweeping mountain views along the shores of Lake Nordenskold. You then reach French Valley, offering an unbeatable view of the Horns of Paine. A short detour to see Salto Grande, the park's largest waterfall.
Level: Difficult

“Paso de Agostini”: enter a remarkable forest of Tierra del Fuego beech. Views over the Paine massif and various lagoons. Picnic amid this landscape. Panoramic view over Lake Toro and the Paine River.
Level: Medium–Difficult

“French Valley”: A 30-minute catamaran crossing of Lake Pehoé. Walk along a winding trail between the flanks of Paine Grande and the Skottsberg lake's river. Views over the Horns of Paine and crossing of the French River via a suspension bridge.
Level: Medium–Difficult

“Torres Base”: one of the most renowned walks in the Paine massif. Climb a hill alongside the Ascencio River up to Paso de los Vientos. You then reach Camp Chileno, where you'll stop for a rest. The walk continues through forests, gaining altitude and offering remarkable views of geological formations such as folds, fractures and granite intrusions. The final hour is the hardest, with the trail zigzagging up a moraine, exposed to wind and unpredictable weather. On arrival at the viewpoint, you get the classic, closest view of the Torres del Paine.
Level: Difficult

Horseback rides
“Estancia Lazo”: views over Lake Sarmiento, Hosteria Lazo, and a crossing through an old Tierra del Fuego beech wood. After an hour, a panoramic view over the Paine massif.
Level: Easy

Horseback ride between the lakes: a ride towards Sierra del Toro, which borders Lake Sarmiento, with sweeping views over the Paine massif.
Level: Medium–Difficult

Scenic excursions
“Laguna Azul”: head towards Lake Azul, which offers a spectacular view of the South, Central and North Torres (weather permitting). A walk to the lake's north shore, where in spring as in summer you'll see a multitude of birds, amid a Tierra del Fuego beech wood. You'll also see the Paine waterfall and Lake Amarga, both magnificent viewpoints in the region.
Level: Easy

“Sierra Baguales Ranch Cerro Guido”: Your excursion begins in the Baguales mountain range. With impressive geology and landscapes completely different from those seen on the Paine massif, you'll walk alongside the Baguales River, searching for fossils and views over this almost unexplored range. Visit Cerro Guido, a 19th-century ranch and its village. A privileged view of Torres del Paine.
Level: Easy

Paine Massif:  This full-day circuit focuses on the western side of Torres del Paine National Park. It is the best way to see a large part of the park in a single day. You'll make successive stops at the best spots for photos. The route ends in the Lake Grey area, where you'll find glacier zones and Nothofagus woodland. With a lot of luck, you may spot a huemul, a native deer species on the brink of extinction.
Level: Easy

Paine Massif + boat trip to Grey Glacier: After your excursion to the Paine Massif, you'll board the Grey II boat towards the imposing Grey Glacier. You'll find glacier zones and Nothofagus woodland along the way.
Level: Easy

Birdwatching in Patagonia: With ever-changing landscapes shaped by the Patagonian wind, Torres del Paine National Park and its surroundings become a gathering place for the region's wildlife. With different ecosystems, it's possible to encounter more than 120 bird species: flamingos, upland geese, ducks, rheas, Magellanic woodpeckers, mountain caracaras, eagles, condors, and more. To discover the region's biodiversity, you'll set out at dawn, when birds are most active and the light best suited to photography. Between lakes, forests and pampas, you'll track down birds. This is an experience that both beginners and experts can enjoy.
Level: Easy

Sport fishing:  Fishing in Patagonia's finest rivers combines trekking to reach the least-explored areas with a passion for fly fishing... in a place of worldwide renown. Accompanied by a specialised local guide, you'll explore crystal-clear rivers free of Didymosphenia geminata, and learn about the local fishing culture. This adventure will test your skill: a battle to tame the Patagonian wind, amid a landscape of great natural beauty. Most of these rivers connect to the sea, allowing the passage of many species. Among the sites to explore: the Baguales, Las Chinas and Serrano Rivers, and Lakes del Toro and Maravilla. In these waters, you can find salmonid trout, Salmo Trutta, Chinook salmon from the Pacific, Patagonian toothfish, and rainbow trout, with specimens up to 12kg. During the full-day programme, the guide will move by “reading” the river and searching the various pools for the area's best fish.
