Búzios, a charming fishing village 2 hours from Rio de Janeiro renowned for its beaches and crystal-clear waters, became legendary after Brigitte Bardot, then at the height of her fame, visited in the 1960s. The French star helped put the village on the map, turning it into “the Brazilian Saint-Tropez,” the most exclusive seaside resort near Rio with its 23 beaches of crystalline water. Búzios — or more precisely, Armação dos Búzios — is also a peninsula, though on a Brazilian scale (six times larger), with vegetation reminiscent of a Mediterranean setting. Unlike other Brazilian resorts, high-rise buildings are not permitted here, and the village has retained its old-world charm.
