À vivre

Ciudad Perdida, perched in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, is an ancient pre-Columbian city likely founded around 800 AD by the Tayrona people. Abandoned during Spanish colonisation and rediscovered in the 1970s, this city built into the mountainside above the Caribbean coast is one of Colombia's major archaeological remains. Reaching it requires a four- to six-day trek through subtropical jungle, or a helicopter journey.

Set within a stunning stretch of primary forest, the Lost City is ringed by curtains of tagua palms and tree ferns, accessible via stone steps. Skilled builders, the Tayrona dotted the massif with villages linked by stone-paved paths. Above all, they showed real architectural boldness: to adapt to the steep terrain, they became experts in terrace construction, for both housing and agriculture.
