Located near the town of Moshi in northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro's legend is set at the heart of a unique ecosystem.
The massif comprises three extinct volcanoes: Kibo (5,895 m), Mawenzi (5,149 m) and Shira (3,962 m). Dry plain, equatorial forest, alpine moorland and rocky desert follow one another according to altitude, while the snow-capped summit crowns the whole at 5,895 m. This is Uhuru Peak, “freedom” in Swahili.
To climb this true African legend, the Marangu route is considered the easiest and most popular, offering climbers nights in mountain huts.
Qualified guides and porters are compulsory for the climb.
