Photography Journey – Special programme: landscapes and wildlife from the best angles
The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is the ideal place to discover the Amazon, far from the usual clichés. Accompanied by excellent guides who know the flooded forest (várzea) like no one else, visitors can observe rare animals against spectacular landscapes. Putting your camera to the test, you'll come away with striking images of endemic species, as well as portraits of daily life in the local communities.
You will also experience enriching personal moments, with the certainty of having contributed to conservation efforts in one of the most extraordinary forests on the planet.
The beauty of the Amazon and the unique features of the Mamirauá várzea combine with the comfort of the Pousada Flutuante Uacari and the guidance of exclusive guides, trained to bring amateur and professional photographers to the best spots, at the ideal moment.
Why choose this experience?

Here is an overview of what awaits you:
- Capturing the different poses of the photogenic sloth;
- Discovering how to photograph an entire sumaúma, one of the largest trees in the Amazon;
- Practising macrophotography with tree bark, twisting lianas, the details of giant water lilies (Victoria amazonica), as well as flowers, leaves and spider webs;
- Documenting daily life in local communities: flour production, farming work, fishing, children's games, stilt houses;
- Taking superb night photographs, especially in the dry season: starry skies, cloud formations, the dark forest;
- Having an excellent reason to return the following year, in a different season, to capture unique scenes: in the dry season, the impressive gatherings of caimans and flocks of herons; in the rainy season, the surreal reflections of the forest on the endless lakes.

One of the main assets of the Photography Journey is exclusivity: each visitor has a boat and a guide specially trained to accompany photographers.
Excursions can thus be timed for the best hours, throughout the entire ecotourism zone of the Mamirauá Reserve.
With a list of suggested activities – scheduled at the best times to capture the ideal light – each photographer can tailor the programme to their own expectations.

In addition to the activities on offer, we provide some fun challenges:
- Getting a good shot of the red-faced white uacari monkey: this emblematic primate of the reserve is elusive and moves very quickly through the canopy;
- Being fast enough to capture the pirarucu mid-leap: this fish, which can reach 3 metres and 200 kg, surfaces to breathe thanks to its modified swim bladder;
- Working with the whims of the light: because of the proximity to the equator, the sun rises and sets very quickly, and the animals are often found in the treetops, backlit.
