Vallée sacrée
El Albergue farm is home to the Kuska school, Green Sacred Valley, as well as the Andean distillery and Mayu café. The organic farm supplies fresh vegetables to the inn's restaurant.
Ollantaytambo has been an agricultural area since pre-Inca times, and farming remains the main livelihood for the majority of the region's population. Here, travellers will notice the remarkable terraces, water channels and storehouses built more than 500 years ago and still in use today. The lodge sits among the Ollantaytambo terraces and, since 2010, has run a small farming project. It grows much of its own vegetables, corn, quinoa and potatoes in the kitchen garden. The garden is cultivated without synthetic fertilisers or agrochemicals, using many traditional techniques practised for centuries: ploughing with livestock, crop rotation, and biological methods of pest and disease control.
