À vivre

Observing giant otters in the Pantanal is an exceptional opportunity to see one of the largest aquatic carnivores in its natural habitat.

The giant otter is active only during the day. It is the largest aquatic carnivore in the world, reaching up to 1.8 metres in length, and is highly social, living in family groups.

A boat excursion is the best way to observe giant otters in the Pantanal. Boats offer a clear, quiet view of the otters’ aquatic habitats.

Seasons

Our seasonal advice

The dry season (May to October) is generally the best time to observe giant otters. Water levels are lower, concentrating animals and prey in smaller areas, making sightings easier.
