The spirit of the journey

An example of a journey through unspoiled nature, at the heart of Vancouver Island on Canada’s Pacific coast.

The wild backcountry and striking landscapes of Vancouver Island will enchant you. In Victoria, the provincial capital, then in Pacific Rim National Park, you’ll board a zodiac in search of orcas, whales and black bears.

You’ll then fly over the island’s interior aboard a floatplane, searching for grizzlies, eagles and foxes. You’ll stay at an exceptional lodge near the Knight Inlet fjord.

Finally, the last stage of your journey will bring you back to mainland British Columbia. There, you’ll explore the coastal landscapes of the Sunshine Coast, on the road back to Vancouver.

Croisière d'observation des orques

Take an orca-watching cruise off Victoria, by boat or Zodiac, for approximately 3 hours.

Victoria, the capital of British Columbia located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is one of the best places in the world to observe whales and marine mammals in the wild. The nearby Juan de Fuca and Haro Straits are home to three resident orca pods. With more than 70 animals belonging to these families, as well as transient orcas, you will have many opportunities to encounter these magnificent creatures.

Local marine wildlife also includes Dall's porpoises, harbour porpoises, Steller and California sea lions, harbour seals, elephant seals, otters, and a variety of birds such as cormorants and bald eagles. You will also have a good chance of spotting humpback whales, fin whales and grey whales.

Each guided excursion is led by a certified marine naturalist with in-depth knowledge of Vancouver Island's marine wildlife.

PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK
You’ll cross Vancouver Island to reach Pacific Rim, on the West coast. Along the way, you’ll pass through centuries-old rainforest and protected parks, entering a wild, entirely natural territory. Your hotel stands, imposing, on the rugged rocks lashed by the Pacific’s waves. Half a day will be devoted to a zodiac outing to observe bears fishing along the shoreline.

During your free time, you can explore the rugged coastline along marked hiking trails, or simply stroll along the beaches of Long Beach. Keep an eye out: Canada geese, deer, black bears and loons are all around…

CAMPBELL RIVER
You’ll follow a beautiful road winding along the East coast of Vancouver Island, past waterfalls and First Nations rock carvings. Welcome to Campbell River, the salmon capital and gateway to the Discovery Passage.

Enjoy a traditional dinner featuring the country’s finest salmon, or if you prefer, try one of the many fishing excursions available on site.

KNIGHT INLET FJORD
Knight Inlet Lodge can only be reached by sea or air. You’ll board a floatplane from Campbell River for a thrilling panoramic flight to this wooden lodge, floating on the waters of Glendale Cove. You’ll spend two nights in this exceptional, exclusive accommodation, set at the heart of the wilderness.

Several excursions await to observe black bears and grizzlies fishing for salmon, along with hikes through lush rainforest. Take a break from modern life and enjoy the luxury of reconnecting with pristine nature.
