BANGWEULU
Bangweulu is not a national park but a protected area where several local tribes coexist with wildlife, and you will reach this wetland region — often referred to as a “little Okavango” — by plane.
Bangweulu means “where the water meets the sky”, which gives you an idea of the beauty of the landscape.
This region also harbours remarkable wildlife and is home to endemic species such as the famous shoebill (of the pelican family), which you can observe between May and July.
Endemic to Africa, the shoebill is found only in a limited range stretching from South Sudan, where the vast majority of the population lives, down to northern Zambia.
Your small tented camp is ideally located within the Bangweulu wetlands and offers superb sunrises.
At night, the calls of hippopotamuses, hyenas and many other species will stir you.
On the programme: canoeing, bush walks, stargazing and visits to local villages.
In May, most activities take place by banana boat, but your guide will also offer “shoebill treks” and will do everything possible to help you spot this rare bird.
