SYDNEY
Cosmopolitan and easygoing, Sydney is Australia’s oldest and largest city.
Set on one of the finest harbours in the world and ringed by city beaches, Sydney has a way of winning over everyone who passes through.
Dive straight into its way of life — Sydney is one of the most pleasant and easy cities to visit anywhere in the world. Locals are friendly, energetic, and bring a good dose of spontaneity to everyday life.
In the evening, you’ll board a tall ship for a 2-hour BBQ dinner cruise around Sydney Harbour.
We have also included a 3-hour whale watching cruise (May to early December only).
BLUE MOUNTAINS
An hour and a half’s drive from Sydney, the Blue Mountains region is a must for anyone staying in New South Wales. The name comes from the fine mist of oil released by the region’s eucalyptus trees, which creates a blue haze above the ranges. Rising above 1,000 metres, this sandstone mountain range stretches 260 km from north to south, with One Tree Hill as its highest point (1,111 metres).
Drive transfer into the Blue Mountains for an unforgettable full-board safari. With your English-speaking guide, you’ll explore the local flora and fauna, gorges and cliffs. Activities included: hiking, fishing and canoeing.
You’ll spend the night under the stars.
AYERS ROCK
A short flight brings you to Ayers Rock. On arrival, your 4×4 safari begins with an English-speaking guide. Meals included, night in a swag (Australian-style bedroll — small tents are available for those who prefer them).
Your off-road safari starts with a visit to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Head to the Cultural Centre to learn more about Aboriginal life and beliefs, before setting off on a guided walk at the base of Uluru. No visit to Uluru is complete without witnessing the striking colour changes across the rock at sunset. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and canapés as you take in the spectacle.
After dinner, settle into your swag for the night, under the stars at the campsite.
KINGS CANYON
After an early start to watch the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), leave camp for Kata Tjuta and a 7 km walk through the Valley of the Winds.
After a stop for fuel and refreshments, continue to Kings Creek Cattle Station for your second night camping near Kings Canyon.
Kings Canyon, located in the Red Centre around 310 km from Uluru, is a deep gorge with walls rising over 300 m. Marked trails make it easy to explore the area.
Alone for miles in every direction, this camp offers sweeping views over the George Gill Range.
Dinner around the campfire, and another night under the stars in your swag.
ALICE SPRINGS
Head to Watarrka (Kings Canyon) for a 7 km walk among its towering walls, crevices and plateaus.
The canyon’s beauty is breathtaking as you walk through the Amphitheatre, the Lost City, and the lush Garden of Eden.
Later, continue on to Alice Springs along an unsealed track, crossing dry riverbeds and sand dunes.
Alice Springs was founded in 1872 with the construction of a telegraph line (Alice was the name of the telegraph station master’s wife at the time). The town sits in Australia’s Northern Territory, deep in the Outback, at the heart of the desert.
DARWIN
Fly to Darwin and pick up your rental 4×4 at the airport.
Capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin is a modern tropical city built around a harbour twice the size of Sydney’s. It’s also Australia’s smallest capital, with a population of barely 100,000. Darwin is the most culturally diverse city in Australia: its population spans more than 50 nationalities, alongside many Aboriginal people who are the traditional owners of this land.
KAKADU
Kakadu is Australia’s largest national park. Its natural beauty and its Aboriginal culture, over 50,000 years old, have earned it dual World Heritage listing. Kakadu is known for its many Aboriginal rock art galleries, waterfalls, gorges, rainforest, lily-covered billabongs, wildlife-rich wetlands and vast grassy floodplains.
We suggest exploring the park while staying at Wildman Wilderness Lodge, around 2 hours’ drive from Darwin, where you’ll spend 2 nights on a half-board basis right in the heart of nature. In the afternoon, you’ll take a billabong cruise — keep your eyes open, crocodiles are never far away!
PORT DOUGLAS
After a final night in Darwin, return your vehicle at the airport before flying to Cairns.
Pick up your new rental car and drive north to Port Douglas, your departure point for a catamaran cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef, which stretches nearly 2,000 km along the Queensland coast.
The day is set aside for swimming and exploring the underwater world of this magnificent, protected natural site. Masks and snorkels will be provided.
DAINTREE FOREST
Take your car to explore Daintree National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Start your day with the Mossman Gorge via the “Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime Walk”. A member of the Kuku Yalanji indigenous community will share their knowledge of the rainforest and ancestral stories. You’ll walk with your Aboriginal guide along easy, private trails passing traditional shelters, waterways and ancient trees.
Then it will be time to fly back to France…
