The spirit of the journey

Total immersion in the famed “Great Bear Rainforest”, the temperate rainforest on Canada's west coast, home to one of the densest grizzly populations found anywhere.

A rare encounter. A unique experience to live intensely. Optimal conditions for observing grizzlies.
The Great Bear Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, holds a significant concentration of grizzlies along the Pacific coast.

From the boat, you can observe and photograph them undisturbed in the river estuary. Two periods are especially favourable for sightings: spring, when bears come to feed after emerging from hibernation, and autumn, when salmon runs draw their predators in to spawn.

This estuary is also a sanctuary for many birds and other wild species. Observation platforms have been built, notably for photographers, offering an optimal and comfortable vantage point for wildlife watching.

VANCOUVER
The main city of western Canada, Vancouver stands out for its superb location between Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River delta.

Vancouver, Ville de Vancouver, Canada

Ville de Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver

The city where a skyline of shimmering glass skyscrapers reflects the beauty of the surrounding ocean and coastal mountains. The city where you can swim at the beach and hike in the mountains on the same day. The city where the cuisine is world-class and the nightlife is buzzing. Vancouver is truly spectacular by nature.

One of Vancouver's great assets? Its proximity to some of the finest destinations in all of Canada — this dynamic city is brimming with restaurants, ski slopes, hiking trails and attractions just as renowned. With its feet in the Pacific Ocean and its head in the coastal mountains, Vancouver perfectly blends striking nature with urban entertainment. Consistently ranked among the world's top 5 most liveable cities for years, this cosmopolitan, laid-back coastal city shares its good spirits, love of the outdoors and stunning scenery.

PORT HARDY
Flight to Port Hardy, at the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

You’ll discover a still-wild region shaped by Indigenous culture, where respect for nature and its preservation come first. The landscape unfolds around a small fishing village, little visited by tourists. Only those drawn to unspoiled nature make their way here.

1-night stay in a 3*** hotel

GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST
Depending on weather conditions, you’ll travel by floatplane or boat to your lodge, deep in the wilderness. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views across breathtaking landscapes and the rich waters of Queen Charlotte Strait, home to orcas, grey whales and humpback whales.

You’ll stay at this comfortable floating lodge, the only one in the strait. True to its ecotourism philosophy, it runs on natural energy (solar and wind power). Meals are prepared with the best local produce, including seafood and Pacific fish.

Each day at sunrise, you’ll head out in search of grizzlies. You’ll also have the opportunity to join a guided sea kayaking tour and a mini boat cruise to explore the glacier-carved strait.

The Great Bear Rainforest is also home to many other species you may spot during your stay: grey wolves, black bears, sea lions, minks, bald eagles…

3-night stay, full board, in a floating ecolodge.

La Great Bear Rainforest

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains, on the west coast of British Columbia, the ancient Great Bear Rainforest is one of the largest expanses of temperate rainforest in the world. Spanning 10 million hectares, it stretches more than 400 km along British Columbia's mainland coast, its fjords reaching up to ice-capped mountains.

An isolated land of archipelagos and thousand-year-old cedars, its unique position has kept it relatively cut off from the rest of North America. Deep within this primary forest, you can find the Canadian grizzly, which lives in the country's national parks and backcountry. From observation platforms or a small boat, you'll watch brown bears roam freely through this pristine environment.

PORT HARDY
Return to Port Hardy by floatplane or boat (weather permitting) after your last grizzly-watching excursion.
