The spirit of the journey

Panama is a narrow ribbon of jungle between the Pacific and the Atlantic. Fringed with idyllic archipelagos, it is a true patchwork of cultures and natural wonders.

This journey in three parts, blending nature and culture, invites you to discover the many facets of Panama.

After visiting the colonial quarter designated a Unesco World Heritage Site, you board the trans-isthmian railway running alongside the canal. Sweeping views of the locks, Gatun Lake, and the rainforest unfold before you.
You reach Monkey Island by boat, then stop at the heart of Soberania National Park, at the Gamboa reserve.

Your crossing takes you to the other side of the canal, to Portobelo, once a refuge for rebel slaves, today a haven of peace. El Otro Lado has made its home there. Four small houses bearing names that set the tone of the place: sun, sea, forest, spirit.

You arrive in Panama.
Discovery of the ruins and museum of “Panama La Vieja”, the first city founded by the Spanish in 1519, along with the colonial quarter known as Casco Antiguo, designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1980. A walk through the streets of this remarkable colonial quarter. Visit to several churches from the colonial era, to the Plaza de Francia with its sweeping view over modern Panama City, and to Plaza Bolivar.

Visit to the Panama Canal Museum, which traces the history of the construction of this feat of engineering. You then go on to admire this 20th-century engineering marvel at the Miraflores Locks. You have a front-row seat to the spectacle of cruise ships and enormous cargo vessels known as Panamax passing through. They are part of one of the three sets of locks on the Panama Canal, located just 20 minutes from the capital.
