The spirit of the journey

A journey designed for lovers of African wildlife who dream of seeing the Great Migration and encountering gorillas, in the best possible conditions.

The endless plains of the Masai Mara offer one of Africa's finest spectacles from July to October, with the Great Migration enjoyed from a front-row seat on the banks of the Mara River.
And year-round, thanks to its dense resident wildlife, thrilling scenes of hunting and animal life await, satisfying your desire to understand African wildlife more deeply.

From there, it's on to Rwanda for an experience with no equivalent in Africa: approaching a majestic creature, without barriers, without protection, in quiet osmosis.
An intimate encounter, rich in emotion, that changes the way you see things.

One to experience at least once in a lifetime, if you can!

MASAI MARA
After a first night in Nairobi, you’ll begin your journey with a light aircraft flight to your first camp, Little Governors, for 4 nights, perfectly located in a protected area on the banks of the Mara River, in what is known as the Mara Triangle.
The landscapes are in constant flux and rank among the most beautiful in the reserve.
Endless grasslands, dense thickets, and the Mara River provide a thriving habitat for a wide range of wildlife.
This is even more true between July and October, when the herds of the Great Migration cross these plains.

This camp makes for an unforgettable safari thanks to its setting, with views over the Oloololo Escarpment and the intimacy afforded by its small size. You’ll be able to enjoy 3 safaris a day, timed to the hours most favourable for wildlife sightings.
At nightfall, you can relax around a campfire, with birdsong as background music and elephants in the distance.

Little Governors Camp

Little Governors' Camp is a tented camp set on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve.
With just 17 luxury tents nestled around a waterhole that draws in a wealth of birds and wildlife, Little Governors' preserves your privacy and keeps a discreet presence, allowing nature to take the place it deserves here.
The camp is reached by boat across the Mara River, followed by a short escorted walk through the riverine forest.
Vehicles are left on the other side of the river.
All of which helps preserve the intimate atmosphere of the place.

VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
After scenes of hunting that can be fierce, prepare for one of the most moving and peaceful wildlife encounters on earth.
An encounter that must be earned, that builds gradually, and that proves deeply emotional.
The encounter with the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll stay 3 nights at a luxury lodge, the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge from the Wilderness brand, set at the foot of the mist-shrouded Virunga Massif.
After a flight from Nairobi to Kigali and a night in the capital, you’ll head out with your private French-speaking guide to your lodge, nestled among the mountains and volcanoes. Here, a genuine spirit of conservation and rehabilitation prevails.
What a captivating setting!

The next day, the big day has arrived! You’re about to experience something extraordinary after making your way, not without effort, through a magnificent forest. Before you, a family of mountain gorillas. You’ll be able to watch them go about their daily routines and observe just how fascinating their behaviour is, and how close to our own: babies swinging from branches, mothers lazily chewing bamboo, and the silverback keeping a close eye on a restless blackback.
You have a precious hour with these iconic primates, and you’ll treasure every second of it.
A memory that will stay with you forever.

Other activities are available depending on your interests, such as golden monkey tracking, guided walks through lush vegetation, a village visit, or birdwatching.

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Located just one kilometre from the edge of Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, at the foot of the Virungas, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge offers a fitting setting for one of Africa's most fascinating experiences: an encounter with mountain gorillas.
The main lodge and eight cottages offer sweeping views of the chain of Virunga volcanoes and are well spaced to ensure privacy.
Its strengths: attention to detail, luxurious finishes and a well-trained staff, just like the Governors' camps in Kenya from the same collection, now branded Wilderness.

Trek gorilles au Parc des volcans

The first light of dawn tears through the mist clinging to the peaks of Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura. You are in Volcanoes National Park. With the help of a guide and trackers, you will set off in search of mountain gorillas. The trek takes you through farmland at the foot of the volcanoes, then through dense bamboo forest, nettles and damp vegetation. Often, you will leave the marked trails to venture into primary forest, clambering over fallen tree trunks.
Vegetarian and forest-dwelling, family groups of 8 to 20 individuals include a dominant male, adult females and several younger members. The silverback male can weigh up to 250 kg and stand 1.70 m tall. Placid and peaceable, these great apes observe you as they feed within their green world, lounging on beds of leaves and bamboo. The young chase one another while infants nurse at their mothers' sides.
Coming face to face with a mountain gorilla family is an intense, singular moment. Legally limited to one hour, the time spent with the planet's largest primates passes remarkably fast. In return, you leave with memories that will stay with you.
