As always, we favour the locations and viewing conditions best suited to making this a memorable experience, away from so-called “mass” tourism. For polar bears, this means lodges in the Churchill region of Canada, far from any civilisation, expedition camps near Labrador, or a small-capacity vessel around the Svalbard Archipelago. For brown bears, Alaska and British Columbia remain essential regions for observing grizzlies, while Finland offers excellent opportunities without travelling too far. The ultimate destination is Kamchatka, home to the largest concentration of brown bears in the world.
And let's not forget the sun bear and the Asiatic black bear in Asia, the spectacled bear in Peru, the American black bear in North America, and the very rare Kermode bear, or “spirit bear”, in British Columbia.
Here are a few travel suggestions for observing bears. Do not hesitate to contact our specialists for more information and to design your tailor-made journey. There's a bear for everyone!
