TORTUGUERO
Tortuguero is a wetland area of rainforest, criss-crossed by man-made canals navigated by boat. It is a true Amazon in miniature, home to crocodiles, frogs, monkeys and sloths, as well as more than 240 bird species. Tortuguero’s beaches are not suited to swimming, but they form an important nesting ground for green turtles, which come ashore to dig their nests between July and October.

SARAPIQUI
The Rio Sarapiqui offers whitewater rafting enthusiasts a thrilling run through steep canyons and churning rapids. A journey to Sarapiqui means total immersion in Costa Rica’s landscapes and culture. The area combines agricultural land (pineapple, banana, cacao…) with nature reserves where the fauna and flora of the rainforest are protected. Sarapiqui is therefore an ideal destination for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking, as well as wildlife observation.

ARENAL VOLCANO
For 3,000 years this mountain lay dormant (or nearly so), until 7:30 am on 29 July 1968, when the volcano erupted. The last major eruptions occurred in the late 1970s, forming a second cone, and again in 1993. Arenal Volcano (1,633 m) rises majestically on the shores of the lake. Its almost perfect cone is cloaked in low green vegetation on its western flank and greyish ash on its eastern flank. This volcanic area is a remarkable playground, with a wide range of activities on offer. We have arranged a walk across the hanging bridges and a canopy activity.

TENORIO VOLCANO AND RIO CELESTE
A beautiful walk through the rainforest leads to waterfalls and natural pools. Inside the national park, a scenic trail of around 3 hours takes you to the Teñideros, where the river turns turquoise-blue as it meets a stream. Other “bubbling” phenomena can be observed near the blue lagoon, where hot water emerges from between the rocks at the trail’s farthest point.

PLAYA TAMBOR
Three nights to unwind. Facing the sea, on a white sand beach, Tango Mar offers an idyllic stay at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, on the Pacific coast.
Beyond relaxing and walking through the property to spot howler monkeys, you can explore the private Curu Reserve and go diving at Tortuga Island. Activities on offer include golf, tennis, relaxing by a pool overlooking the sea, or the spa.

OSA PENINSULA
You return your vehicle at the Tambor airstrip and fly to Palmar. The approach to the lodge is a delight at every turn, travelling by boat through mangroves and across open sea to land straight into the water of Drake Bay. The lodge team welcomes you on arrival.
