Barefoot luxury, Robinson Crusoe style

It all begins with a helicopter flight from Vilanculos. Then the setting takes shape: 2 cabanas, 10 casinhas and a three-bedroom family villa, scattered beneath the canopy along a vast beach. Four-poster beds, locally crafted furniture, outdoor showers, small private pools and beach gazebos: comfort is total, yet the spirit remains that of a remote hideaway, tinged with Arab and Portuguese influences. Dinners are served on the beach or in your villa, built around freshly caught fish.

Diving and marine life: the ocean as playground

The lodge has its own dive centre, and two scuba dives per day are included. Around the island, pristine reefs are home to turtles, dolphins, humpback whales and dugongs. Catamaran snorkelling, sea kayaking, beach horse riding, sunset dhow cruises: everything here draws you outdoors, barefoot.

A lodge committed to the ocean

andBeyond Benguerra Island lies at the heart of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, protected since 1971 and managed since 2017 by African Parks.
Through its Oceans Without Borders programme, run with the NGO Wild Impact, andBeyond supports marine rangers who monitor fishing activity, coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangroves. These habitats are essential to dugongs — whose Bazaruto population is the last viable one in the region — and to threatened sea turtles.

Because a sea cannot be protected without those who depend on it, the programme also works with the people of Benguerra: local employment, education, healthcare. A stay here contributes directly to this effort.

The journey begins with a helicopter flight to Benguerra Island, off Vilanculos, in the Bazaruto archipelago.

Set on a beautiful beach on Benguerra Island, in the Bazaruto archipelago, Benguerra Lodge is a superb luxury lodge rising above a vast white sand beach facing turquoise waters.

The 2 cabanas and 10 casinhas, set within lush vegetation, offer the charm of a remote hideaway in total harmony with nature — like small Robinson Crusoe-style cabins, yet with excellent comfort (four-poster bed, fan, air conditioning, locally crafted furniture, bathroom with double vanity, bathtub, outdoor shower, spacious terrace with a small private pool, beach gazebo with mattress and sun loungers). A three-bedroom family villa completes the accommodation offer.

Freshly caught fish and exotic Portuguese cuisine make for inventive, varied meals. The chefs have inherited the region’s cultural mix.

A communal pool is also available to guests.
