DAY 1 - LONGYEARBYEN
Boarding and welcome aboard. Discovery of the ship and your living spaces on board.
Departure around 5pm. Welcome cocktail.
DAY 2 - MAGDALENEFJORDEN & VIRGOHAMNA
Magdalenefjorden (or Magdalena Bay) takes its name from the patron saint of whalers. This fjord, roughly 10km long, provided excellent shelter for the whalers who flocked here in the 17th century. Magdalena Bay will be the starting point for a hike onto the large glacier.
You will then head to Virgohamna, a small bay known worldwide thanks to engineer Salomon August Andrée, who attempted to reach the North Pole by balloon. You will see the remains of his expedition and the memorial stele erected in his honour by the Swedish navy.
DAY 3 - SALLY HAMNA
Visit the ruins of Sally Hamna, a former Dutch whaling station later taken over by Norway, from which you will enjoy an exceptional viewpoint over the glaciers.
DAY 4 - IN SEARCH OF THE PACK ICE
Throughout the day, you will admire Arctic landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see, while watching for polar bears and other local wildlife.
DAY 5 - SJUØYANE
Cruising around Sjuøyane (Norwegian for “the Seven Islands”), an uninhabited archipelago located above 80° North.
DAY 6 - TORELLNESSET & ALKEFJELLET
Thanks to the manoeuvrability of the ship and its Zodiacs, you will be able to approach very closely a huge walrus colony and the “bird cliff” where thousands of guillemots nest.
DAY 7 - NORDAUSTLANDET & WILHELMØYA
Cruising around the islands of Nordaustlandet (North-East Land) and Wilhelmøya. Nordaustlandet is the archipelago's second-largest island after Spitsbergen, from which it is separated by the Hinlopen Strait. It is largely covered by glaciers, including Austfonna, Europe's largest ice cap, and Vestfonna. You will enjoy sweeping views of these immense glaciers and their ice falls.
DAY 8 - FREEMANSUNDET & EDGEØYA
The day begins with sailing through Freeman Strait, home to numerous bears. You will then reach the island of Edgeøya, part of the South-East Svalbard Nature Reserve. It is also an important habitat for polar bears, which share the island with Svalbard reindeer.
DAY 9 - HORNSUND
Sailing through a maze of fjords surrounded by Spitsbergen's highest peaks, including the 30km-long Hornsund fjord, which opens onto the Greenland Sea across a 12km width. Here you will see the Polish Polar Station at Hornsund, operating since 1957, which has its own landing beacon. Due to the many hazards within the fjord, the lighthouse is also fitted with a red sector light. This navigational aid is unofficial, but it naturally serves to guide ships arriving at the station.
DAY 10 - ISFJORD, PYRAMIDEN & BARENTSBURG
The day begins with a scenic sail through Isfjord (Spitsbergen's main fjord). You will then disembark at Pyramiden (a former Russian mining settlement with striking architecture), followed by Barentsburg (Spitsbergen's second town, accessible only by boat or snowmobile, whose main economic activity is coal mining by the Russian company Arktikugol).
DAY 11 - LONGYEARBYEN
This is where this fine adventure comes to an end.
Disembarkation at 9am after breakfast.
