Parc national d'Etosha

Etosha National Park, covering 22,270 km², is one of the largest wildlife reserves in southern Africa and a must-see attraction in Namibia. A true natural sanctuary, it offers one of the most compelling displays of wildlife anywhere in the world. The park is home to 114 mammal species, including the black rhinoceros, for which it serves as a last natural refuge, as well as 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, remarkably, a single fish species.

Its name, meaning “great white place,” comes from the Etosha Pan, a dried-up inland sea millions of years old, 120 km long and 72 km wide, once fed by the Kunene River. This vast expanse, accounting for 25% of the park’s surface area, turns a pale white under the sun and briefly fills with water during the rainy season, creating striking reflections and mirages.

At that time, the park draws thousands of birds, including flamingos, in a remarkable display of colour. Early morning or late afternoon photo safaris allow you to watch animals come to drink at the waterholes and capture unique scenes of wildlife at the heart of the Namibian desert.

DAMARALAND
Departure for the next stage, Damaraland, with its rocky, ochre-toned desert. Along the way, you will meet a Himba tribe, a semi-nomadic people who live in small villages across Namibia.
You will spend two nights in the region, visiting, among other sites, the Organ Pipes rock formation and the rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will then set out on an expedition in search of desert elephants.
You will spend two nights in “luxury” bivouac camp at the heart of Damaraland.

SWAKOPMUND
Departure for the coastal town of Swakopmund, arriving in the early afternoon.
The following morning, you will set out on a boat cruise in search of dolphins, seals and a wide variety of birds.
Optional excursions are available in the afternoon: quad biking, 4×4 dune driving, scenic flights over the desert, and more.
Two-night stay in a guesthouse in the town centre.

NAMIB DESERT
This morning, head for the red dunes of the Namib Desert. Drive through the Kuiseb Canyon before reaching your camp at the heart of the Namib, the world’s oldest desert.
The following day, rise before dawn to watch the sunrise, then spend the morning among the dunes of Sossusvlei and the white clay pan of Deadvlei. You will appreciate the shifting colours of these, the world’s tallest sand dunes.
On the way back to camp, a short walk through Sesriem Canyon.
Two-night stay in “luxury” bivouac camp, in a silent, captivating setting.

The following day, you will head to the capital to catch your international flight.

Survol du désert en montgolfière

Sossusvlei, a desert of salt and clay, is best appreciated from the sky, particularly when its ochre and red hues shift at sunrise.
The only place in the country offering an excursion through the skies, flying over Sossusvlei reveals how Namibia was formed, as well as the past, present and future evolution of its landscape.
While spotting tiny antelopes making their way to waterholes far below, take in this desert aboard what is arguably the lightest mode of transport in the world.
