NYERERE NATIONAL PARK (FORMERLY SELOUS)
After a daytime flight and an overnight stay in Dar Es Salaam, an early-morning light aircraft flight takes you to Nyerere National Park.
The low visitor numbers in this park give it the atmosphere of an authentic, truly wild Africa.
Nyerere promises a timeless world reserved for just a privileged few.
After a 45-minute flight, you will be met on arrival and a 4×4 will take you to your highly exclusive luxury camp, where you will stay for 3 nights.

Your guide will talk with you at the start of your stay to plan activities according to your preferences.
Your stay will be shaped by 4×4 safaris tracking lions and African wild dogs, boat trips on the river in search of hippopotamuses and crocodiles, a night under the stars, and walking safaris to encounter elephants.

Whether daydreaming under the stars or from an armchair, you will be won over by the sight of kingfishers along the river and the charm of this tranquil haven.

Parc national de Nyerere (ex Selous)

Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, is today one of Africa's largest and most impressive protected areas. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it covers more than 30,000 km², over half of the former Selous Reserve's 54,000 km². This transformation, formalised in 2019, aims to strengthen wildlife protection and promote sustainable tourism in this exceptional region of Tanzania.

The park takes its name from Julius Nyerere, father of independence and the country's first president, deeply committed to nature conservation. Nyerere stands as a tribute to his vision of a Tanzania where human development goes hand in hand with the preservation of ecosystems.

A true sanctuary of biodiversity, Nyerere National Park holds an impressive concentration of wildlife. It is home to more than 75,000 elephants, over 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippopotamuses, 4,000 lions, a large population of leopards, and the world's largest population of African wild dogs. Its birdlife is equally remarkable, with more than 400 species recorded, and its flora is highly diverse, with over 2,100 identified plant species.

The Rufiji, Tanzania's largest river, flows through the park, forming a network of lakes, swamps and floodplains that draw abundant wildlife year-round. This spectacular natural setting allows for varied safari experiences — by 4x4, on foot or by boat — offering a rare immersion in the wild.

Still little visited by mass tourism, Nyerere National Park appeals to travellers seeking authenticity, vastness and unforgettable wildlife encounters. It is a prime destination for discovering one of the purest, best-preserved faces of Tanzania.

Memorable experiences await:

Sunsets over the Rufiji River rank among the most mesmerising in East Africa.
The true lifeline of Nyerere National Park, the Rufiji winds through valleys and floodplains, breathing vital energy into this often arid but always spectacular corner of the Selous. A boat cruise on its calm waters brings you close to dozing hippopotamuses, gliding crocodiles and an incredible diversity of birds and mammals coming to drink.
At the end of the day, it's on a sandbank, facing the sun as it sets the horizon ablaze, that you savour a suspended moment, drink in hand, lulled by the raw beauty of the river.

Parc national de Ruaha

Ruaha National Park, covering an impressive 13,000 km², is one of Tanzania’s largest protected natural areas. Together with the Selous Reserve, it forms one of the country’s principal elephant sanctuaries, renowned for the exceptional density of its populations. Watching these majestic animals drink in groups along the winding rivers or around the lagoons is a striking scene, at once powerful and serene.

Isolated and difficult to reach, the park remains remarkably little visited, guaranteeing an authentic and intimate safari experience. The wildlife here is simply remarkable: beyond the usual lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, hippopotamuses, crocodiles and buffalo, Ruaha also shelters rarer species emblematic of Southern and East Africa. With some luck, visitors may spot greater and lesser kudu, sable antelope and roan antelope, alongside an extraordinary bird diversity, with more than 370 species recorded.

Through its isolation, raw beauty, rich landscapes and varied wildlife, Ruaha arguably represents Tanzania’s wildest and best-preserved face. It is a prime destination for those seeking untouched nature and off-the-beaten-track safaris.
