The spirit of the journey

Zimbabwe is one of southern Africa's gems.
It is valued for its atmosphere, its landscapes, and the exceptional quality of its guides.
Africa as one imagines it, as one dreams of it. Like an intoxicating scent that has stopped time.

Your journey begins amid the tumult of the majestic Victoria Falls, in Victoria Falls town.
An optional helicopter flight is also a chance to admire the highest falls in Africa from the air.

From there, a light aircraft will take you on to Lake Kariba. A place with an almost otherworldly atmosphere, immortalised in Claude Lelouch's film Itinéraire d'un enfant gâté.
The lodge we will have booked for 2 nights offers a service to match the setting: refined and exclusive.

Your journey ends along the lower Zambezi, where you will spend 5 nights on the riverbanks.
While elephants reign over the Chobe River, here it is hippopotamuses and crocodiles that rule.
From your canoe, you will glide along the sandy shore of a small island, facing the Zambezi escarpment. You will enjoy a drink and a few snacks while watching the sun set behind the Zambezi escarpment, with only hippopotamuses for company!

VICTORIA FALLS
Arrival at Victoria Falls in the late morning or early afternoon.
Settle in for one night at your lodge, located in a residential area of Victoria Falls, 5–10 minutes by taxi from the falls.
Free afternoon to explore Victoria Falls or take part in other activities.
You could also opt for a helicopter flight over the falls to take some fine photographs.

Take in the grandeur of the Falls.

LAKE KARIBA
You will head to Victoria Falls airfield to board a light aircraft bound for Lake Kariba, in north-eastern Zimbabwe.
An artificial lake filled in the early 1960s following the construction of the Kariba Dam, the lake and Matusadona National Park are a haven for wildlife. Operation Noah, carried out before the valley was flooded, saved thousands of animals from drowning.

Settle into your superb lodge for 2 nights before setting out on your first safari with the lodge’s English-speaking guide.
At sunset, return to the lodge for dinner and an evening under the African sky.

The following day, morning and afternoon safaris with your English-speaking guide.

Safaris on foot, by small flat-bottomed boat, and by 4×4.
Truly memorable experiences.

Lac Kariba et parc national de Matusadona

Lake Kariba is the largest man-made body of water in the world, created by the construction of the Kariba Dam in the 1950s. As the dam filled, the Zambezi Valley was flooded to form what would become the lake, requiring Operation Noah: as its name suggests, this effort rescued and relocated 6,000 animals trapped by the rising waters to dry land, which today forms Matusadona National Park.

The lake is home to the world's largest Nile crocodiles, which swim among the dead trees left standing since the flooding — trees that now form a kind of natural sculpture where raptors and cormorants perch.

To the south of the lake, the 1,350 km² Matusadona National Park is one of the last sanctuaries for black rhinoceros, and is also home to the other members of the “Big Five”. They share the park with baboons, zebras, giraffes and antelopes, hunted by leopards.

A stronghold of natural diversity in Zimbabwe.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge

Perched on a hill overlooking the magnificent Lake Kariba, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge is the ultimate place for rest and relaxation. The lodge stretches down toward the lake, where elephants and buffalo graze along the shoreline alongside zebras, wildebeest, impalas and waterbuck. In nearby Matusadona National Park, you may spot black rhino, leopard, or lions on the prowl.

MANA POOLS – Zambezi Expeditions
A light aircraft will take you further east to Mana Pools National Park.
On the banks of the Zambezi River, which marks the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Mana Pools is one of the most authentic places in southern Africa. Far from everything!
The atmosphere here is peaceful, and life moves to the rhythm of the Zambezi River.

Welcomed by your guide, with a safari en route to your camp, set on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Settle into your tents. You will spend 3 nights at Zambezi Expeditions camp.

At sunset, you can take in the magnificent evening light over the river and the Zambezi escarpment.
Note that night safaris are not permitted in this safari zone (national park), and off-track 4×4 driving is prohibited.
That said, you can go on walking safaris and — where possible — approach animals on foot.
2 safaris by 4×4 or on foot per day in the national park are offered.

You can take open 4×4 safaris, walking safaris to approach animals, and canoe trips on the Zambezi.

Parc national de Mana Pools

Mana Pools captures all the charm of authentic Africa, where time flows gently to the rhythm of the Zambezi.

A gem of southern Africa, Mana Pools National Park lies along the banks of the Zambezi River.
On the opposite bank, to the north, lies Zambia and the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Mana Pools covers 2,800 km² and is arguably the most captivating park in southern Africa, provided you take the time to look around and observe its wildlife and vegetation.

A truly wild and seldom-visited environment, it is the ideal setting for walking safaris with experienced guides, as well as canoe trips on the river (offered only by certain lodges) and 4x4 game drives.

This is arguably the best place in Zimbabwe – if not in southern Africa – to spot the very rare African wild dog.
This off-the-beaten-track region offers breathtaking landscapes, and the beauty of the wildlife along the riverbanks makes it the most remarkable park in southern Africa.

MANA POOLS – Nyamatusi Camp
Set within a forest of centuries-old trees on a bend of the Zambezi, Nyamatusi camp offers greater comfort and refinement for your final 2 nights.
Elegant and discreet, it offers just six tents and a highly personalised service.

Your days here will include walking safaris within the Nyamatusi concession, 4×4 and canoe safaris, accompanied by outstanding guides.

While wildlife can be observed year-round, the drier winter months (June–August) are particularly favourable, as animals gather around the scarcer water sources — lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and zebra, along with some 400 recorded bird species.
The park holds one of the largest concentrations of hippopotamuses and crocodiles, thanks to its constant water supply.

Without a doubt, Mana Pools is where your finest African memories will be made.

After these thrilling safaris, you will fly to Harare ahead of your return flight.

Nyamatusi Camp
