Pia Glacier is located in the Tierra del Fuego region, in southern Patagonia. It forms part of Alberto de Agostini National Park and flows into Pia Fjord, a sea arm that reaches deep inland. Pia Glacier is distinguished by its imposing walls of blue-tinged ice and its spectacular glacial front, where blocks of ice regularly break off and fall into the water — a phenomenon known as calving.
This glacier is only accessible by sea, and Australis cruises are among the best ways to reach it.
You can disembark near the glacier to appreciate its imposing scale. An excursion to the viewpoint offers excellent conditions for observing the mountain range that gave rise to this impressive glacier, as well as its full course down to the sea. Note that a good level of physical fitness is required — the climb is steep!
For the less adventurous, viewing from the shore allows you to approach the front without difficulty, after climbing a few rocks (a few dozen metres, all the same...).
