Bimmah Sinkhole is a natural pool with strikingly turquoise waters, 50 to 70 meters wide and around 20 meters deep, set in the heart of Oman's arid landscape. Its formation is thought to be linked to the erosion of limestone that once formed a vast cave. When the roof of this cavity became too fragile, it collapsed, revealing the clear water below, likely connected to the Gulf of Oman, located just 600 meters away.
However, according to local tradition and the wisdom of the elders, the phenomenon is said to have a very different origin: legend has it that a meteor fell here, carving out this natural basin. This is why the site is protected under the name Hawiyat Najm Park, or “Falling Star Park”.
Whatever its exact origin, Bimmah Sinkhole remains an irresistible invitation to swim in its crystal-clear waters, offering a refreshing oasis in the midst of the Omani desert.
