Cienfuegos is one of the last cities built in Cuba. It was founded by French immigrants from the southern United States, and its rectilinear, airy architecture reflects these origins. Set at the far end of one of Cuba's largest bays, it has a coastal, port-town character. The Terry Theatre, the Prado promenade, and the terrace overlooking Punta Gorda at the magnificent Palacio del Valle all bear witness to a rich past.
